ODPP prefers charges against IEBC officials accused of election offences

Kilifi Presiding Officer was also charged with failure to report the incident.

The office of The Director of Public Prosecutions has said it is closely monitoring and acting on election-related matters.

In Kilifi, ODPP said it had preferred charges against a Presiding Officer and Polling Clerk at Mtomodoni, Shimo la Tewa Ward for issuing 2 extra ballot papers.

Anwar Kai (Presiding Officer) and Dorine Mwinzi (Polling Clerk) were accused of breaching their official duty.

Kai was also accused of failing to report the incident.

"Dorine pleaded guilty and reading of the facts of her case was deferred to August 15. Kai pleaded not guilty. Both were granted a cash bail of Sh300,000 and a bond of Sh500,000," ODPP said.

In Kisauni, Mombasa, ODPP has charged a Presiding Officer and Deputy Presiding Officer for willfully and unlawfully failing to count ballot papers for members of the National Assembly, County Assembly and Women Representatives.

Nicholas Nyamuya (Presiding Officer) and Sawiya Kirunda (Deputy Presiding Officer) pleaded not guilty and were granted Sh300,000 cash bail and Sh500,000 bond. The matter will be mentioned on August 15, 2022.

In Narok, 3 Polling Clerks were produced in court, one of them was allegedly seen plucking 4 ballot papers for MCA post, another allegedly marked them at the polling booth and the other allegedly attempted to rescue them from arrest.

Parnade Parmao, Laput Francis and Nkaampa Laput appeared before Narok Chief Magistrate's court.

The court granted ODPP's application to have time extended to allow investigators to complete the investigation into the matter.
