Tension remains high in Eldas Constituency in Wajir County after Monday's chaos that has since paralysed operations at the tallying centre.

The chaotic incident happened at the area CDF hall which has been turned into a tallying centre.

Voting is yet to start following the standoff between the two opposing sides on the list of presiding officers and deputy presiding officers.

By 9am, voting had not started.

A deputy presiding officer who spoke to the Star in confidence said that there was nothing going on in the constituency.

On Monday night, a chaotic incident occurred at the Eldas CDF which is the constituency tallying centre after it was razed down by unknown arsonists.

During the standoff, several shots were fired as people scampered for safety.

IEBC is yet to give an official statement regarding the issue and whether voting indeed will take place.

"It's a normal day here in Eldas, nothing is going on... With the tension and standoff, there is nothing that can go on. We can only hope and pray that an amicable solution is found so that this very important national exercise starts," he said.
