Justina Wamae: Our vote is consolidated now

Says the party being broke couldn't have them both on the campaign trail

In Summary

• "We don't have a conflict, the video was a mistake from the word go. My party leader was quoted out of context," Wamae said.

• “Pesa ndio inatukosea. To go on a campaign trail you need money. We don’t have the logistics to go together. We have a great working relationship though," she said.

Roots presidential candidate George Wajackhoyah’s running mate Justina Wamae has rubbished claims that she was in bad blood with her party leader.

She termed the claims as baseless and unfounded stating that they have a great working relationship.

Wamae, however, said that they have been struggling as a party especially in funding their campaigns, due to inadequacies.

“Pesa ya logistics ndio inatukosea. To go on a campaign trail you need money. We don’t have the logistics to go together. We have a great working relationship though.

“Our vote is consolidated now, and we are ready for the ballot on August 9,” she said on phone on Sunday.

Wamae promised to work together with Wajackoyah stating that they had sorted out their differences that mainly surrounded their campaign trails.

"We are going on to sell our Roots party manifesto. I have an independent mind. Women and youth should not be used as flower girls, they should be invited to the decision making tables," she said.

Wamae however said it is untrue that her party leader had endorsed their political rival Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, stating that the video doing rounds purporting the same was shot at a club.

"We don't have a conflict, the video was a mistake from the word go. My party leader was quoted out of context," she said.

Wamae said the party is democratic and her party leader has given her an opportunity to speak her mind.

"We continue to popularise our agenda as a political party including the legalisation of bhang,” she said.

Wamae, however, said they are broke as a party and had agreed to share responsibilities with her party leader.

"We are broke, hence we discussed with my party leader that he attends some party's official functions as I popularise the party in various media houses," she said

Earlier, Wamae had protested that she was ignored by her party leader. A statement that was translated by many as a conflict between the two.

“Let me begin by saying that I fully understand my role, which is amplifying both the youth and women voice whilst consolidating the men's voice," she said.

Wamae however said she had to speak up regarding the alleged matter that her principle and party leader is supporting Azimio.

"I confirm that we have not agreed to take this direction as a party neither have I been consulted," she said.

Wamae said she believes they are on course as a party and are focused on popularising their manifesto as Roots Party of Kenya.

"However, let me make it clear that if push comes to shove and am asked to support the other three presidential candidates, who are our worthy opponents then; I Justina Wangui Wamae a youth and a woman of sound mind would support the contrary,” she had earlier said.
