Kakamega County Senator Cleophas Malala's stepmother has ditched Kenya Kwanza for Azimio.

Jackeline Okanya announced her support for Raila Odinga's bid during an Azimio rally at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.

"Nimetoka Kenya Kwanza. Nimekuja Azimio kusaidia Baba na Martha. Nimekuja kusaidia gavana wangu Barasa na Savula ili Kenya yetu iweze kwenda mbele," she said.

Loosely translated to, "I've ditched Kenya Kwanza for Azimio to support Raila and Martha. I've also come to help my incoming governor Barasa and Savula (Fernandes Barasa and his running mate Ayub Savula) so that Kenya can move forward."

Okaya is vying for Mumias West parliamentary seat, where she assured Raila that the area will be led by Azimio-allied leaders.

She is vying on an ANC ticket. On June 19, she was asked to step down for Rashid Echesa of UDA, which she denied.

ODM's  Barasa is contesting the governor seat against Malala who is vying on an ANC ticket, Cyrus Jirongo (UDP), and Samuel Omukoko of Maendeleo Democratic Party (MDP) among others.

Speaking during the rally, Raila pledged to revive operations of Mumias Sugar Company.
