Orange Democratic Movement leaders from Kilifi county have supported their party leader's decision to skip the presidential debate set for Tuesday.

Led by Kilifi ODM Chairman and Ganze Member of Parliament Teddy Mwambire, they said Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga cannot attend the debate until there is an agreement that the issue of corruption will be discussed.

Speaking at Ndingiria in his Ganze constituency during the groundbreaking of a new secondary school, Mwambire called upon residents of Ganze, Kilifi, and the Coast region at large to elect leaders who are dedicated to ending corruption.

He said that would save the nation which has lost a lot of money on projects that have no benefits to the country.

"If the issue of corruption will not be discussed, we see no need for him (Raila) to go because the biggest problem we have had in this country is corruption," he said.

Mwambire said corruption is among the reasons why Ndingiria and many other areas of his constituency had lagged in matters development.

On Monday, the 2022 presidential debate secretariat confirmed that the debate would go on as scheduled despite the concerns raised by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition and the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

In a statement, the Secretariat led by Clifford Machoka said the debate will be held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa from  5 pm.
