Four county officials, including one from the Ministry of Lands, were charged in court with procurement irregularities on Wednesday.

Kericho County officials were arrested on Tuesday by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials.

They were charged with knowingly deceiving the principal, forgery and engaging in fraudulent practice.

"On diverse dates between April 23 and June 7 2018, at the County Government offices in Kericho, being members of the Tender Evaluation Committee tasked with the duty of evaluating tender for the rehabilitation and upgrading Kerenga Airstrip, knowingly prepared and submitted a misleading due diligence report to Chief Officer in charge of Public Works, Roads and Transport of Kericho without ascertaining the veracity of the information in the tender document," the charge sheet read.

The arrest came after complaints were received at the South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru alleging that there were procurement irregularities after funds were allocated for the expansion of the Kerenga Airstrip to an airport.

EACC said on April 18, 2018, the Chief Officer of Public works, Roads and Transport, appointed the Tender Evaluation Committee comprising six members.

The Evaluation process was done between 23rd - 25th April 2018 and a construction company was recommended.

"Unfortunately, the County Government of Narok, Nakuru, KeNHA and KeRRA verified that the documents submitted by the company were forged," EACC said.

According to the EACC, the company was not registered with National Construction Authority, and the registration Certificate that was attached to their bid document was forged.
