Covid 19: Kenya records 58 new cases

Kenya on Monday recorded 58 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 1511 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate was at 3.8 per cent.

The Health Ministry said in a statement that 51 of the newly infected individuals are Kenyans while 7 are foreigners.

It said 26 of them are females while 32 are males and the oldest is 93 years old.

Nairobi accounted for 33 of the new cases, Nyeri 13, Baringo four, Machakos three, Uasin Gishu two, Kericho, Nakuru and Siaya one case each

Kenya's total confirmed positive cases are now 336,798 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,797,731.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 228 patients have recovered from the disease, all from the Home-Based and Isolation Care Program.

"This pushes the total recoveries to 329,901 of whom 276,468 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,433 are from various health facilities countrywide," he said in the statement.

No patient succumbed to the disease meaning the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,668.

There are 93 patients currently admitted to various health facilities while 1,136 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. 

Two patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), one is on ventilatory support while the other is on supplemental oxygen.

So far, Kenya has administered 19,093,750 vaccines.

The government is working towards vaccinating 27,246,033.
