Sonko cleared to vie for Mombasa governor

The IEBC had invited Sonko for clearance following a court order.

Wiper party candidate for Mombasa governor seat Mike Sonko has been cleared to vie.

Sonko was cleared on Thursday shortly past 3:30 pm. His clearance process took roughly about 45 mins.

The former Nairobi governor had arrived at the IEBC offices in the company of his running mate and Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo.

Wiper party chairman Chirau Ali Mwakere was also present.

The IEBC had invited Sonko for clearance following a court order directing theM to put the Wiper candidate on the ballot.

After clearance, Sonko described the occassion as "victory."

The elated supporters chanted praises to Sonko immediately after it was confirmed that the former governor would be on the ballot.

"Si uchawi ni maombi!" they chanted.
