Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday bumped into Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua at Wilson Airport.

The Star has learnt that the former City boss was seeing off his Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at Wilson Airport when he met the two Azimio leaders.

The group was headed to the Coast region where they are set to hold campaign rallies in Taita Taveta, Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi counties to drum up support for Raila's presidency.

Pictures and videos of the meet were shared by Sonko on his social media.

In one picture, Raila appears to embrace Sonko at his Azimio camp by putting a cap on his head.

The act of putting a cap on the head is often used by Kenya leaders to welcome defectors and new team members.

In another picture, Sonko was captured having a talk with Karua.

It is after the meeting that Sonko left and joined President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director General Mohammed Badi in Eastlands.

The last time Sonko and Raila were close was in May when chaos rocked Mkomani Showgrounds in Mombasa in an Azimio rally.

The former Nairobi Governor had arrived in a motorcade of three vehicles, sparking excitement and protests in equal measure.

The move sparked a chaotic incident after Sonko's supporters clashed with those backing ODM candidate Abdullswamad Nassir.

The unrest resulting from Sonko’s arrival forced police officers at the venue to swing into action.

The meet was disrupted for minutes forcing Sonko to exit the rally.

The Former Nairobi Governor is facing legal battles as he seeks to become Mombasa’s second Governor in the August polls.

He will know on Wednesday whether his name will be on the ballot for the Mombasa governor contest or not.

A three-judge bench of Olga Sewe, Ann Ong'injo' and Stephen Githinji hearing the petition filed by Sonko against IEBC will give their decision on the matter.
