UDA presidential candidate William Ruto now claims that opinion polls are manipulated in favour of his Azimio la Umoja opponent Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Monday in Matungu, Kakamega county, Ruto claimed Kenya Kwanza is better than Azimio la Umoja and that's why the coalition is having the polls manufactured.
"Wamebaki na opinion poll. Wanaenda wanatafuta mzungu mwingine hapo, wanamwambia fanyia sisi ukarabati ya opinion polls.. Ati sijui nani ako nyuma, nani ako mbele," he said.
This roughly translates to, "They are only left with opinion polls. They have gotten a certain white man to manipulate the polls putting one candidate ahead of the other."
His remarks came hot on the heels of a new survey released Monday by Trends and Insights Africa (TIFA) which suggested that Raila was the most preferred presidential candidate with 42 per cent of Kenyan voters approving his election compared to Ruto's 39 per cent.
The DP, however, told his supporters and Kenyans in general to ignore the polls.
He said he has a better plan to revive the economy than Raila.
"I want too urge you not to worry. We have defeated them (Azimio) in everything; in our agenda, our manifesto and plans," Ruto said.
The poll had +/- 2.34 margin of error. It was conducted between June 25 and 30, 2022.
Tifa's Monday poll which gave Raila a narrow edge over Ruto was a slight improvement from the poll conducted in May by the same research firm.
In the May study, the former prime minister had 39 per cent against the DP's 35 per cent.
But despite Raila being in the lead, the survey indicated that Ruto's United democratic Alliance party was the most popular party with 33 per cent approval rating compared to Raila's ODM which had 26 per cent.
In comparison to the May poll, UDA had 29 per cent while ODM had 25 per cent.
