Nairobi governor candidate Johnson Sakaja is expected to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over his ‘degree saga’.

Sakaja was summoned by DCI and the Commission of University Education to appear before them with the necessary documents.

CUE chairman Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha said the Commission wants to establish how Sakaja got his degree certificate and whether he really studied or not.

Chacha said despite Team University in Uganda being a recognised university, the number of complaints received called for further probe.

Sakaja is expected to avail himself to the Commission’s offices on Monday at 10:00 am.

He is expected to present; application and admission letters from the university, and evidence of registration including Student ID.

Others are; the Credit Accumulation and Transfer System, course description for the Bachelor of Science in Management, course units taken, transcripts, examinations schedules and his graduation booklet.

Sakaja said he was ready to submit the documents needed by CUE, adding that it is unfair that the Commission is demanding such requirements.

"I was ready to provide the requirements they asked for on June 6. I have the graduation booklet. In fact, it is certified by the issuing university," he said.

The senator is also expected to appear before DCI Director George Kinoti to explain the reported discrepancies in his academic qualifications.

Sakaja’s lawyer Collins Kiprono received a letter summoning the youthful politician to appear before sleuths investigating the matter at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

In the letter, DCI officer Kuriah Obadiah said he was investigating an alleged offence of forgery contrary to section 345 as read with section 349 of the penal code.

I believe you, Senator Johnson Sakaja has information that can assist in the investigations,” the letter read in part.

He is to appear at the DCI office Block B, Room 82 situated at Mazingira House at 2:00 pm.

Over the weekend, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Dispute Resolution Committee cleared Sakaja to contest for the seat at the August polls.

The tribunal dismissed a petition that challenged the validity of his degree.

The committee said it lacks jurisdiction to determine the authenticity of the document.
