A DCI agent was on Wednesday arrested by Detectives from the Internal Affairs Unit of the National Police Service, following a request by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The DPP  via a letter dated May 24, 2022, directed the IAU to arrest and charge before a court of law Corporal Kennedy Okello Ojode of DCI Academy, South C.

Ojode was to be charged with the offence of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 313 of the Penal Code.

It is alleged that on February 22, 2021, Ojode approached a member of the public with a promise that he would help her secure a chance in the NPS during the recruitment but on the condition that she parts with some money to facilitate the process.

Desperate for employment, the lady through her relatives raised Sh250,000 and gave it to Ojode hoping that she will finally realize her dream to join the Police.

In order to gain her confidence, Ojode invited the complainant to DCI Academy before the recruitment day and took her around the Academy facilities.

Attracted to how she was treated on arrival, the lady went and deposited the said amount into the officer's bank account only to realize later after recruitment that she was duped.

The lady filed a complaint with the Unit accusing the officer of obtaining money from her fraudulently.

Ojode is currently in custody at  Capital Hill Police Station awaiting to be arraigned before Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, June 16.
