Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Secretary General Junet Mohamed has hit out at Kenya Kwanza running mate Rigathi Gachagua for his Saturday's comments on the police uniform.

He was speaking on Sunday at Matuu, Machakos County during the Coalition's campaign tour.

"Nimeona Gachagua akipinga mapolisi. Ati anasema wanavaa nguo ambayo haifai. Tafadhali uheshimu polisi. Polisi ni watu wa muhimu sana hapa Kenya," he said.

This loosely translates to, "I have seen Gachagua taking a swipe at police officers. He said they are dressed in uniforms that are not worthy. Please respect police officers. They are very important people here in Kenya."

Junet claimed Rigathi and his boss William Ruto want to reap big from the tender of new uniforms they will issue to the police once they win.

"We are fools, we know."

On Saturday, while addressing the Kenya Kwanza county economic forum in Nyandarua county, the Mathira MP said they will reform the police service, starting with their uniform.

"You have suffered so much in the hands of Matiang'i and Kibicho. Even the new blue uniform that you don't want will be revoked and we return to the old one. The blue one will be left for PCEA church. It is the uniform of women's guild," he said.

The comments have drawn comments from leaders and the public, with many saying it was disrespectful to the church.

Miguna Miguna also condemned Gachagua, telling him to focus on the agenda of Kenyans instead of what he termed as "sideshows".

"Look at our opposition, every time they speak, they insult Kenyans and women. Now they are saying women dress in Blue, is Blue a bad color?" Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu asked.
