Machakos County Police Commander Issa Muhammud has told candidates contesting for various political positions in the county to maintain peace throughout the electioneering period.

Muhammud said politicians shouldn’t politically misuse youths to cause violence against their opponents but instead embrace peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 9 polls.

He warned that the government won’t tolerate those found in conflict with the law, they will all be lawfully arrested and arraigned in court without bias on whoever the culprit is.

“My appeal to all candidates is that they maintain peace as they sell their campaign manifesto. We don’t have serious security challenges in Machakos County so far,” Muhammud said

Muhammud addressed the press in Machakos County on Friday.

He said the county was among those ones which are known to be peaceful across the country with residents who conduct themselves maturely.

“Let youths not be misused or abused because we are ready to deal with the culprits,” Muhammud said.

The police boss said they were firm and ready for the elections.

“We have been preparing for the elections for the last one year, we are ready. We will take action decisively against anybody who breaks the law. Persuade the electorate without forcing them to vote for you,” Muhammud said.

He said as a National Police Service, they were ready for any eventualities.

“We are ready for anything and we will deal with anybody who breaks the law. I appeal to young people to desist from violence. Politicians should convince voters so that they vote for them, nothing else,” Muhammud said.

“The public shouldn’t be misused during this electioneering period. They should make wise decisions because the leaders they will choose this season, will live with them for the next five years. Choices have consequences. So, you make the right choices,” he said.
