A man who threatened to strangle his wife to death and set her body ablaze was on Wednesday charged in court.

David Kipng’etich Bett was charged before Kibera magistrate  Jacqueline Muthoni Ojwang. He denied the charges.

The charge sheet read by court clerk Evans Koech says the offence was committed on May 15 at the Amboseli area in Dagoretti Sub-county within Nairobi County.

He allegedly threatened to kill his wife Peris Chepkoech contrary to the penal code.

“You threatened to strangle Peris Chepkoech Kuyioni to death and set her body ablaze in your rented house,” Koech said.

According to the prosecution, the conflict started after the accused person suspected his wife was dating another man.

The prosecution says that the accused person raised the issue with the complainant and they solved the matter amicably for the sake of their marriage and children.

On the fateful day, however, Bett is said to have sent her wife a disturbing text indicating he was going to kill her over money he wired to her for school fees.

The man needed an explanation from her on how she spent the money.

Court papers show Bett, in the past, assaulted the complainant badly on the head and had tried to chop off her left hand.

The magistrate released him on Sh200,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh100,000 with the surety of the same amount.

She directed that the matter be mentioned on June 29 for further directions.

Magistrate Jacqueline Muthoni Ojwang of Kibera court granted him Sh 200,000 bond.
