Natembeya cleared to run for Trans Nzoia governorship

He asked his competitors to shun violence, intimidation and insults during the campaigns.

Former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya was on Monday afternoon cleared by IEBC to contest in the August polls.

Trans Nzoia County Returning officer John Lorionokou cleared Natembeya and his running mate Philomena Bineah Kapkori at the National Museums of Kenya in Kitale town. 

Natembeya, running on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya ticket, was cleared during an exercise attended by Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and former cabinet minister  Noah Wekesa.

Natembeya asked his competitors to shun violence, intimidation and insults during the campaigns.

The former administrator told thousands of residents who had turned up to witness his clearance to expect better services and a transformative economy.

"I challenge my rivals to embrace a peaceful campaign. They should stop intimidation and insults," he said.

"Expect transformative leadership under my stewardship. I promise not to let you down. Our team is going to liberate the county from the economic mess," he promised.

The commission earlier declined to clear Independent candidate Professor Ben Wanjala after his running mate failed to produce certified documents.

The pair was given until tomorrow. 

Other candidates who have been cleared are Independent candidates Jimmy Nduruchi and Wycliffe Eshiwani. 

Ford Kenya Secretary General Chris Wamalwa is expected to be cleared by the commission on Tuesday.
