Kenya's Covid positivity rate at 5.9% as 80 test positive

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is now at 31.1 per cent.

Kenya on Monday recorded 80 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 1367 tested in the last 24 hours.

The Health Ministry said in a statement, that of the cases 59 are Kenyans while 21 are foreigners. 42 are females and 38 males.

The youngest is a five-year-old child while the oldest is 84 years old.

Nairobi accounted for 66 of the new cases, Kiambu 5, Nakuru 5, Mombasa, and Murang’a 2 cases each.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said 89 patients have recovered from the disease, all from the Home-Based and Isolation Care Program.

"This pushes the total recoveries to 318,907 of whom 265,876 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation program, while 53,031 are from various health facilities countrywide," he said in the statement.

Fortunately, no patient has succumbed to the disease therefore the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,651.

There are eight patients currently admitted to various health facilities while 1,068 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

No patient is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), supplemental oxygen, or High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination Campaign

So far, Kenya has administered a total of 18,277,404 vaccines. Of these, 16,498,295 are doses administered to the adult population while 1,390,380 are doses administered to those between 15 to 17 years.

35,280 children below 15 years but above 12 years were also vaccinated.

The total number of vaccines administered in the last 24 hours is 3,449 while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the last 24 hours is 1,246.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is now at 31.1 per cent.

The government is working towards vaccinating 27,246,033 people by December 2022.
