Cotu endorses Raila's presidential bid

The unionists vowed to traverse the country to popularise Odinga's presidential bid.

Trade Unions under the umbrella Central Organisation of Trade Unions have backed Azimio-OKA presidential hopeful Raila Odinga in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking on Tuesday, the unionists vowed to traverse the country to popularise Odinga's presidential bid.

Cotu 1st Assistant Secretary-General Ernest Nadome said they will rally over 2.5 million workers to vote for Raila on August 9.

This is the first time the giant workers' umbrella is taking a position in a political contest in its history.

"For the last four years, he (Atwoli) has been doing it as a person earlier this year we had a board meeting and it is in that board meeting that we discussed politics," Nadome said.

"We agreed that all SGs go back and consult widely, listen to our members and explain why Raila is the most suitable. When we came for a follow-up meeting it was a unanimous decision to back Raila."

The unionist spoke during a meeting with Raila at a Nairobi hotel.

The ODM boss was accompanied by Governors Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o (Kisumu), Nderitu Murithi (Laikipia), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Azimio-OKA spokesperson Prof. Makau Mutua and Embakasi MP Babu Owino
