Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha launched form one selection exercise at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, KICD, Nairobi on Monday.

Nanyuki High School was for the second time the topmost preferred school for a majority of 2021 KCPE candidates.

A total of 156,003 candidates selected it yet the institution has only 480 capacity in form one.

Some 38,797 KCPE candidates were selected to join national schools on May 3, 2022.

Magoha says 214,960 others have been placed in extra county schools while 258,456 will be enrolled in county schools.

Another 726,311 students were enrolled in sub-county schools while 2,045 were placed in special needs schools.

Magoha said more than 800 students from informal settlements are among those selected to join national and extra county schools.

Magoha further said that a big number of candidates did not receive proper guidance and direction when choosing schools.

"This resulted in some schools attracting far many applicants against their capacities."

"This scenario can be avoided if candidates are offered relevant guidance during the selection process by teachers and parents," he noted.
