Machakos governor aspirant Wavinya Ndeti has exuded confidence that she will win the seat on August 9.

Ndeti said she was best placed to succeed Governor Alfred Mutua whose second term in office expires in August.

She prided herself on some of the development projects that she implemented during her reign as the Kathiani MP between 2007 and 2002.

“I swear to God, if the polls are free and fair I will win the election,” Ndeti said.

Ndeti addressed residents as she toured Jamcity, Kwa Mang’eli, Makadara, Sofia, Slota, Kasuitu, Oloshaiki , Intercounty and Empakasi villages in Athi River ward, Mavoko, on Saturday, April 2.

She said that during her tenure as MP, she negotiated for Kathiani constituency to be split into two, Kathiani and Mavoko constituencies, raised the number of public secondary schools from 13 to 30, constructed Athi River Level 4 hospital, youth polytechnic and empowerment centre, and helped several youth secure jobs.

The former Transport CAS promised Machakos residents transformative leadership which she said will ensure that their livelihoods were improved.

Ndeti said small scale traders will be exempted from paying revenues to the county government when she becomes the governor to enable them to get empowered and grow their businesses to medium and large scale enterprises.

Those she said will be exempted from paying revenue are vegetables vendors, salonists, hawkers, locals who take their livestock to the market, shoe shiners and bodaboda operators.

The former Kathiani MP said the waiver will enable the traders to recover from the effects of the Covid – 19 pandemic.

She said if elected governor, she will allocate Sh1 million in each of the 40 wards to support women through table banking.

“I will get more than Sh1 billion for women in businesses,” Ndeti said.

Ndeti said her administration will allocate adequate funds for infrastructure development like roads, electricity, and water.

“It is important that as we implement development projects in the county, our people also get helped through supporting their hustles,” she said.

She said the locals will be awarded contracts and residents from all the wards will benefit from county government tenders.

“All self-help groups will benefit, I will help them to grow into companies. They are going to be limited companies,” Ndeti said.

Ndeti said she will in her first 100 days in office ensure that all hospitals within the county are well equipped with drugs.

There are about five candidates seeking to replace Governor Alfred Mutua. They are former State House chief of staff Nzioka Waita, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, ex-CAS Wavinya Ndeti, Deputy Governor Francis Maliti, and former Senator Johnson Muthama.
