A day after the Supreme Court nullified the BBI, Narc Kenya party leader Martha karua has defended her political relationship with the Azimio la Umoja movement saying its manifestos are not in any way related to the BBI.
The Narc Kenya leader said she supports the Azimio movement due to the ten points agenda fronted by the movement which coincidentally is in sync with her political party's ideals.
She adds that none of the points touches on the BBI.
It is worth noting that many of the leaders under the Azimio la Umoja were strong proponents of the constitutional amendment process while Karua was an opponent.
She says her stance on the protection of the constitution has not changed despite joining Azimio.
The Narc Kenya leader reiterated that many of the emotive proposals can still be amended without taking the country through a referendum.
Karua said that through the constitutionally approved institutions, county governments can still achieve a 35 per cent resource allocation as the constitution states a minimum 15 per cent allocation.
She said that through the Linda Katiba movement and other few factions created to oppose the passage of the BBI, they worked their fingers to the bone for the sovereignty of the law above personal interests.
The former MP Gichugu added that those riding on their glory for political interests are a disgrace and hypocrites.
"Some politicians have taken advantage of Friday's BBI ruling to cheat you that they have your interests at heart, while all along they suppressed their voices on the matter as we fought tooth and nail in the rejection of the process."
"They simply want to take credit for what they didn't work for."
Speaking to Kirinyaga Narc Kenya members on Friday, Karua said she missed action during Thursday's BBI judgement as her presence would not affect the court's decision in any way.
Karua said she was in Machakos canvassing for votes from the 'Maendeleo ya Wanawake movement .
She told off those castigating her decision to join Azimio instead of any other political formation saying she exercised her freedom of association and publicly explained the reason.
"I'm not apologetic for having joined Azimio. I keenly assessed all the formations and settled for them because I'm in agreement with its plans for the country and its zeal to protect public resources. No, any high ranking seat is suitable for me if public resources are being misappropriated. I only want to be associated with accountability because that is where the prosperity of this country emanates."
The Narc Kenya leader said she was thirsting to work with reputable leaders who would ensure that holes through which public funds are lost are sealed so that it would end Kenyans' suffering.
She dared those who thought otherwise of her political decision to respectfully challenge her publicly by use of facts and not insults
"All along you wanted me to be associated with your faction. After making a decision that went contrary to yours, you resulted in insults. How come you considered me as a reputable leader only for you to change your stance about me after I made my decision?" she posed.
Though not dismissing her presidential running mate bid, former Gichugu MP noted that she was still in the race for the Kirinyaga governorship bid.
Taking pride in her long political career, Karua said if elected governor, she would not abandon national politics as she is not only a party leader but is equally a woman of steel capable of juggling both.
The Narc Kenya party leader said she would this time round lead her supporters in protecting her votes and would not allow any cunningly hatched plot that shall compromise her victory as the third Kirinyaga county governor.
Karua further called on Kenyans to inculcate a habit of electing accountable leaders who will guard and wisely utilize their funds.
She is an equal measure called on her colleague leaders to lead mature campaigns void of insults and incitement.
"A country is like your neighbouring school or church where you are an active member. In those institutions, you don't allow questionable characters to lead you. You should replicate the same habit when it comes to electing national leaders. Assess them and choose the best."
