Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has begun construction of the first transmission tower along the 132kV Sultan Hamud - Merueshi - Loitoktok transmission line.

KPLC said the line once completed will supply power to Loitoktok town and the surrounding areas.

“The line when completed will supply Loitoktok town, the cement plant at Merueshi, and surrounding areas with reliable power.”

Two weeks ago, KPLC acting Managing Director, Rosemary Oduor, said the company was planning to roll out a metering system across the county, starting with Nairobi.

Oduor said the new metering system will ensure that illegal connections are reduced.

The Company celebrated 100 years of service on March 3.

Speaking in Nairobi then, Oduor said the company has intensified its focus on five core strategic values.

The strategies include growing sales, stepping up of revenue collection, enhancing system efficiency, managing cost and improving customer experience to boost profitability.

In December 2021, the power firm recorded a 12.9 per cent increase in electricity revenue, which grew to Sh69.447 billion.

She added that the company will continue to manage its costs.

Oduor also said the company will keep on making strategic investments in the network so as to increase reliability.
