The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has condemned an incident where a motorist attacked a police officer on a road in Nairobi.

Video of the incident went viral on social media eliciting mixed reactions among Kenyans.

According to IPOA, such criminal acts interrupt the provision of security services and inconvenience law-abiding Kenyans.

"Such acts encourage disorder, break established order in society and exacerbate disregard the rule of law in the country."

"We urge Kenyans who feel disgruntled about policing services, or police officers to lodge their complaints with the Authority for investigations by dialling the toll-free number1559 instead of resorting to attacking the Police," IPOA said in a report.

The Authority also commended members of the public who helped the officer when he was being attacked.

The assault happened after an accident involving the motorist and a boda boda rider.

Video of the incident shared by Sikika road safety showed the motorist punching the officer.

The incident reportedly happened on Thursday.

Reports indicated that the police officer identified as Mark Muriira was on his way to work when he came across a road accident.

He stopped by to check what had happened.

A disagreement is said to have ensued leading to the motorist punching the officer, as seen in the video.

Luckily, police officers passing by were alerted by bodaboda riders to come and salvage the situation.

The officers responded swiftly and arrested the culprit.

The incident happened on a road in Nairobi along where the Nairobi Expressway is being constructed.
