Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said discussions on who will be Raila Odinga's running mate in the August polls are yet to take place.

Speaking to KTN News, the former VP, further dismissed reports that he kept Raila waiting on Saturday when Azimio la Umoja held its NDC.

"I was kept waiting for 6 hours, Raila arrived at 2 pm and we went to KICC, Nairobi, thereafter for his coronation as Azimio Presidential candidate," he said.

"There was nothing like the six-hour protracted debate about anything because all these things had been agreed upon. We (OKA) insisted on structured dialogue and that is what we have been following up on... The name of the grand coalition is Azimio One Kenya," he added.

Raila was named Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate in an event that was expected to commence at 9 am but ended up beginning at about 2 pm. No reasons were given for the delays.

When asked about the running mate position, Kalonzo, who was speaking at his Tseikuru hometown in Kitui County, said he did not join Azimio la Umoja movement for his personal gain.

"Discussions on running mate did not take place. The discussion was about what was in it for Kenyans. Some of us are selfless. We did not go in it for personal gain," he said.

He further claimed that Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu had compelled Raila Odinga against signing the agreement with him.

“They did not want Raila to sign anything with Azimio-OKA in it. At the last minute, Raila came with Ngilu and then we moved. At that time I had also looked for Gideon Moi,” he said.

Kalonzo has insisted that he will now focus on popularizing Raila's bid across the country ahead of the August 9 elections.

On Saturday, during Azimio la Umoja rally at Jacaranda Grounds, the Wiper party boss said he had made a U-turn and would support Raila's bid for the third time.

"I thought Raila will endorse me for the presidency this time around but out of a good heart, I will support him. Raila Tosha," he said.
