The coronation of ODM leader Raila Odinga as the presidential candidate of Azimio la Umoja was delayed after Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka allegedly issued fresh demands before joining the formation.

The event was scheduled to start at 9 am but five hours later, it had not commenced.

All this time, Kalonzo and Raila are understood to have been holed up in a meeting trying to resolve the standoff.

The meeting was convened at State House by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Other party leaders supporting Azimio were in attendance.

Kalonzo is said to have insisted on a running mate position for him to join the formation. This position however has been reserved for the Mt Kenya region.

As negotiations went on, governors who were waiting at Abadare Hall in KICC were asked to move to a room reserved for them on the first floor.

At the venue, delegates were entertained with music from different parts of the country as they waited for guests.

No reasons were given for the delays even as the masters of ceremony kept recognising prominent people in attendance.

Over a dozen parties were to sign a declaration committing to Azimio la Umoja.

Even the six parties that signed the corporation agreement with Jubilee were expected to sign the pact.

The Chairmen and Secretary Generals of the respective Parties were to form a plenary to iron out finer modalities of the Coalition.
