Two teachers were arrested for taking pictures of exam papers on the last day of KCPE.

A third suspect, an examination centre manager, was also arrested for the same reason.

The three suspects are from Marsabit, Turkana and Bungoma counties.

Education CS George Magoha said the fate of the two teachers and centre manager was sealed.

“A manager in Abrassa Academy in Marsabit took an image of the paper and dispatched it to others. He has been arrested,” Magoha said.

In Turkana, a teacher was found with a cell phone with prepared answers and was also taken to police custody.

"We want to do the same in the coming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam which starts on Monday,” he said.

The CS spoke on Wednesday while on a fact-finding tour at Old Kibera Primary School.

He said teachers hired to supervise KCSE should live to high moral standards and let students take the tests without helping them to cheat.

By 10.45am, pupils had already completed their Social Studies and Religious Education papers.

Magoha said the results will be out on March 23.

Teachers have already started marking the 2021 KCPE papers that were submitted on Monday.

The pupils started with Mathematics, Composition, and Language on Monday while Kiswahili Lugha, Insha and Science were done on Tuesday.

Magoha said marking started on Monday and Mathematics, English Language and Composition papers have already been marked.

“I want to thank politicians for giving us space to conduct exams,” he said.

Magoha also thanked his colleagues for ensuring a smooth flow of activities during administration of KCPE exams.

“I want to thank Interior CS Fred Matiangi, PS Karanja Kibicho and ICT CS Joe Mucheru for availing their officers,” he said.

The education boss said no student missed exams, apart from special cases identified.

"The student who went blind in Kitui and a few cases in Mbeere. However, I can say no student missed exams even in violence prone areas," he said.

The council has also initiated a command and call centre that will be used for communication and monitoring of the exams.

The toll- free lines are 0800 724 900 and 0800 721 410.

Knec has also put in place programmes that will guide the assessment of oral exams, distribution of materials during exams and return of answer scripts.

This year the council registered 1,225,507 candidates in 28,316 KCPE examination centres as compared to 1,191,752 candidates in 28,467 centres in 2020.

This reflects an increase of 33,755 representing 2.75 per cent.
