The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) has called off the strike at Egerton University.

Egerton staff went on strike on November 12, last year on claims of poor remunerations and non-compliance with their 2017-2021 collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

According to a notice by the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU), workers will now resume their duties.

The two parties, UASU, Egerton chapter, and UASU national office signed a return-to-work formula.

"We have unanimously agreed to call of the three months strike," the notice reads.

It was signed by UASU Egerton Chapter Chair Silas Mwaniki and UASU secretary-general Constantine Wasonga.

"The two-day negotiations were held at Egerton University between UASU officials and Egerton management," the motive reads.

The strike paralysed operations, compelling the management to close the university on November 26, 2021, to date.

Earlier this year, the varsity management suspended a number of Lecturers.

They were accused of absconding from their duties and given seven days to respond to the suspension letters.

The suspended dons dismissed the move by the University Management Board saying their strike was legal.

The 14 lecturers were officials of the UASU Egerton University chapter.

They downplayed the move and maintained that their strike which involves all the university dons was protected.
