I want to be remembered for ensuring that the Competency Based Curriculum is successfully implemented, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has said.

The CS said he is determined to fight corruption and all the negative forces to ensure the CBC classrooms are delivered on time.

Magoha said he will not allow any individual to deter his and government efforts towards the quest of accomplishing the project.

"I am not going to let any county not to complete the first phase of the CBC project as scheduled," he said.

The CS said Kenyans will one day commend him for the CBC project and his extraordinary footprints for the service delivered.

The first phase is set to be completed before the end of the ongoing national examinations.

About 6, 470 CBC classrooms are expected to be ready. The rest of the classroom blocks' construction to begin immediately after the exams.

Magoha said he won't hesitate to terminate contracts for the lazy contractors who are dragging the government project.

"If you find contractors who don't want to continue, remove them and take those who are willing and have shown exemplary performance," he said.

The CS assured that the government will pay the contractors appropriately for the work submitted but won't accept shoddy work.

He, however, said for the contractors who might be sacked, they will have their payment as per the work done.

The government allocated Sh8.1 billion for more than 10,000 CBC classrooms to be constructed across the country.

According to Magoha, each classroom is currently being constructed at Sh788,000 saving the government around Sh460,000.

The usual Kenyan price in projects as per Magoha is Sh1,260,000.

He said many leaders have been fighting him because of his firm stand of protecting Kenyan funds from being embezzled.

He told his critics that they have met a rigid wall, adding that there is no money to be stolen.

Magoha noted that the construction of the CBC classrooms was 80 per cent complete with Meru, Garissa, Mandera and Wajir counties taking the lead.

He said the construction of the junior secondary classrooms was 90 per cent complete in all the Nyanza region counties and would probably be finished by next week.

According to Magoha, already over 3,000 classrooms are completed and 2,000 are at the roofing level and the rest at the walling stage.

He made the remarks on Thursday while commissioning two CBC classrooms at Kwale Deaf High School and Tsimba secondary in Matuga, Kwale county.

The CS raised concern saying the project in Kwale was slow asking the local administrators to ensure the contractors fast-track constructions.

"I am going to charge Kwale people to ensure their children are not left behind, and I will come back to check because we must deliver," he said.

At least 129 CBC classrooms are expected to be constructed in 89 high schools of Kwale.

Matuga subcounty has got the lion's share of 47 classrooms, followed by Lunga-Lunga 26, Msambweni 24, and Samburu 16.

So far, according to the county director of education Martin Cheruiyot, about 79 classrooms are yet to be completed.

Meanwhile, Magoha advised students to abstain from exam cheating.

He said the government has planned well to ensure the national examinations go uninterrupted.
