Kenyan Ambassador and High Commissioner to Tanzania Dan Kazungu has resigned.

He took to Twitter to deliver the news.

“As outgoing Kenya High Commissioner to the United Republic of Tanzania, I bid farewell to Hon. Amb Mulamula, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation today at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam,” he tweeted.

Kazungu has declared his interest in the Kilifi governor seat where he will be competing in the ODM nominations against Deputy governor Gedion Saburi, Devolution CAS Gideon Mung’aro and speaker Jimmy Kahindi, who recently joined the party.

Before becoming an ambassador, Kazungu was the MP for Malindi Constituency in Kilifi County. He had won the seat through an ODM ticket in the 2013 General Elections. 

He was a member of the Departmental Committee on Energy, Communications and Information in the National Assembly.

On December 18, 2015, Kazungu was promoted to the Cabinet Secretary for Mining by president Uhuru Kenyatta.
