ODM leader Raila Odinga has dismissed a statement by Kenya Kwanza Alliance on the state food prices in the country.

Hours after ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi read out a joint statement by Kenya Kwanza, Raila scolded the camp saying they lack knowledge on how the economy is managed.

Raila, who is in the Coastal region for campaigns, labelled Kenya Kwanza statement on the cost of living as noise.

“Hakuna haja ya kupiga kelele tu, na kubweka eti gharama iko juu, nchi gani ambayo haina deni?” Raila said.

Loosely translates to: "Theirs is no need of making unnecessary noise, and barking that the cost of living is high. Which country doesn’t have debts?”

He spoke on Monday at Mwangulu in Lunga-Lunga, Kwale County during the Azimio la Umoja Movement campaign.

Recently, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance which is being led by the Deputy President William Ruto, Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula accused the government of its thirst for more borrowing of loans at a time when Kenyans are suffering.

Last week, Ruto’s team asked the National Treasury not to borrow funds anymore.

The team said that the country has surpassed the Sh9 trillion borrowing limit, a situation they said puts the country at risk.

Ruto asked those at the National Treasury to budget within the country's income to avoid overburdening taxpayers with debts.

The DP said the country could no longer service more debts as it is already paying Sh1 trillion every year.

"We want to plan our budget in line with our income," Ruto said.

Mudavadi appealed to the National Treasury CS Ukur Yattani not to incur unnecessary debts as the current administration's term nears the end.

"They should not commit Kenyans on anything that will put them into trouble," Mudavadi said.
