The Democratic Party has ruled out entering into any pre-election pact ahead of the August 9 elections during the endorsement of Justin Muturi as the Presidential flag bearer and party leader.

The endorsement happened during the Democratic Party National Delegates Conference at The Bomas of Kenya on Sunday.

Muturi will take over the DP leadership from Joseph Munyao, one of the political veterans who founded the party with retired President Mwai Kibaki in 1991.

"I am going to sacrifice my position as the party leader of DP to Justin Muturi and I will become the party patron," Munyao said .

Muturi has promised that the first thing he will do if elected as president is to scrap the Youth Ministry as all the ministries in his government will be Youth-Centric, which will focus on dealing with the youth and have dedicated personnel to ensure that the ministry remains focused on Youth Affairs.

He said that the youth accounts for more than 75 per cent of the population and cannot have only one out of 22 ministries.

He said that his government will move from a system that glorifies education qualifications to one that encourages the development of skills sets that are aligned with the vision of the country.

"I believe that parents should not have to decide which child to educate and which not to.This is why in The Democratic party government that I intend to form, education will be free from Primary to Secondary," Muturi said.

The Democratic Party will restructure the NHIF system and change it's entire policy. It will set up a health commission that will help streamline the health sector.

47 new referral hospitals in all counties will be set up to enhance accessibility and ease the pressure on Kenyatta National Hospital.

"Change can only come when leaders of integrity stand up and take the leadership mantle. I hereby accept the privilege of running for the Presidency on the Democratic party ticket," Muturi said.
