ODM leader Raila Odinga has disclosed Azimio la Umoja Movement will zone the country and parties to field candidates based on their strengths in an area.

Raila said they would resort to joint nomination between partner parties in some places, and the winner will be the sole Azimio candidate.

Speaking on Wednesday when he met a delegation from Kilifi, the former prime minister noted that the hybrid system would ensure there is only one Azimio candidate in each elective position.

"You know we are fashioning Azimio Party where we will have many political parties like Jubilee. ODM will field candidates for some seats while Jubilee will also sponsor candidates in some areas," Raila said.

"In other areas, we will conduct a joint nomination and have all the other parties back the winner," he added.

Already, over 10 political parties have signalled interest in joining the yet to be formed Azimio coalition party.

The Star has established that the campaign board is working on how the country will be zoned and identifying areas where joint nominations would be conducted.

Raila also called on nomination losers not to leave the party but support winners, saying they will all be accommodated in his administration.

"When you lose, it does not mean you are out. If your opponent wins, embrace them and support them in campaigns," he said.

The Malindi delegation was led by former Magarini MP Harrison Kombe and Kilifi Speaker Jimmy Mahindi.
