Laikipia governor Nderitu Muriithi's PNU party will on Thursday hold a key strategy meeting to unveil the roadmap to the August 9 polls.

The party's National Executive Council-the top decision-making organ-will hold a forum in Nairobi with aspirants drawn from the county and the metropolitan region.

This would be an all-important meeting for the party which is seeking a stamp its presence in national politics since the exit of retired President Mwai Kibaki in 2013.

The session would also be crucial for the party to appraise its aspirants with its strategy for the August General Elections.

The meeting convened by the PNU chairman, Engineer David Kamau, will also discuss branch revitalization in preparation for party nominations.

“The meeting will be attended by members of the national executive committee ( NEC) and aspirants who have expressed interest to run on a PNU ticket for the 2022 general elections in Mt Kenya and Nairobi Metropolitan counties,” an invitation seen by The Star says in part.

PNU aspirants forum has been restive and robust in pressuring the party to set clear nomination management rules and regulations especially for cosmopolitan areas like Nairobi, metropolitan areas and all urban areas.

Stiff competition is expected in these areas among candidates.

This competition assumed new dimensions in August last year when PNU and Raila Odinga's ODM signed a co-operation agreement.

The Nairobi city and metropolitan counties of Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and parts of Nakuru county have assumed critical importance inside the Azimio La Umoja alliance.

PNU is a key player and in which member parties are expected to compete with each other for parliamentary, gubernatorial and senate seats.

Two top members of PNU- Agriculture CS, Peter Munya and Laikipia governor, Ndiritu Muriithi- are key pillars in the emerging Azimio La Umoja coalition of parties.

On December 10 last year, they declared the former PM their presidential candidate at Kasarani Sports Stadium.

It was conspicuously significant that CS Munya acted chaperon of honour at the Kasarani event, sitting next to Raila at the high table the whole day.

Last week, Raila appointed Muriithi the chairman of his Presidential Campaign Board.

Many viewed the move as a vote of confidence in both the Laikipia governor’s talents, abilities and loyalty, but also an endorsement of the newfound PNU-ODM rapprochement.
