Eight gold miners are trapped under a mining shaft in a village in Bondo, Siaya county.

The mine collapsed at 3pm on Thursday.

Bondo subcounty police commander Roseline Mnyolmo said the eight were working at a mining site in Abimbo village when the mine caved in, trapping them.

They were among 10 miners who had been buried under the rubble, but two were successfully rescued.

The police boss said rescue efforts were underway.

Mnyolmo said they were looking for an excavator to speed up the rescue mission.
