A man suspected of rape is fighting for his life at a Busia hospital, after receiving a  beating from an irate mob for allegedly raping a physically challenged woman.

According to a police report, George Ouma crept into the victim’s house on Wednesday evening after noticing the victim’s caregiver leave the house at around 6pm.

"He took advantage of the victim’s situation and forced himself on her as she screamed for help," the Directorate of Criminal Investigation said on Thursday.

"Her brother who had just rushed to nearby Mundika market to buy vegetables, came back only to find the man in the beastly act."

The angry brother together with other villagers from Esikulu descended on the suspect with blows and kicks, attracting the attention of police officers from the local patrol base.

The officers rushed to the scene and rescued Ouma from the wrath of the angry mob.

The victim was rushed to Busia county hospital for treatment and medical procedures.

Meanwhile, the suspect, who is also under medical treatment, will be arraigned for rape charges.

Just last week, a 24-year-old man was arrested for attempting to rape his grandmother in Kalongo sub-location in Makueni county.

Stephen Mutua Mutala was accused of attempting to defile his grandmother.

The Director of Criminal Investigation, George Kinoti, said the suspect broke into his 86-year-old grandmother’s house and crept into her bed before grabbing her by the neck and covered her mouth, attempting to rape her.

"The granny in her sunset years screamed in despair as she fought off her attacker, with all the strength that she could gather," Kinoti said in a statement via Twitter.

"This alarmed the frustrated suspect, who stormed out of the house after hitting his grandmother’s leg with a chair, leaving her writhing in pain."

The DCI sleuths swiftly launched a manhunt for the suspect which led to the apprehension of the alleged criminal.
