A 24-year-old man was on Thursday arrested for attempting to rape his grandmother in Kalongo sub-location in Makueni county.

Stephen Mutua Mutala is accused of attempting to defile his own grandmother on Wednesday night.

The Director of Criminal Investigation, George Kinoti, said the suspect broke into his 86-year-old grandmother’s house and crept into her bed before grabbing her by the neck and covered her mouth, attempting to rape her.

"The granny in her sunset years screamed in despair as she fought off her attacker, with all the strength that she could gather," Kinoti said in a statement via Twitter.

"This alarmed the frustrated suspect, who stormed out of the house after hitting his grandmother’s leg with a chair, leaving her writhing in pain."

The DCI sleuths swiftly launched a manhunt for the suspect which led to the apprehension of the alleged criminal.

DCI boss said the suspect is being processed for arraignment.

This incident comes barely a week after a clergyman from Makueni was accused of raping a school going teenager.

DCI reported that the man of the cloth, identified as Rev Daniel Kimeu, offered a ride to the teenager, only to stop at a secluded place and take advantage of the 18-year-old.

DCI said the clergyman, who was entrusted with the responsibility of shepherding the Lord’s flock abdicated his responsibility and attacked one of his own.

"The cleric who ministers at A.I.C Kalebwani Church in Kilungu had offered a ride to the 18-year-old form three girl on October 19, before he stopped the vehicle at a secluded spot after a few kilometres and forced himself on the girl," DCI said.

The girl reported the incident to her teacher as she painfully recounted her ordeal in the hands of the man of the cloth.

She said that she was walking home from Kikuswi market when Rev Kimeu suddenly stopped his vehicle and beckoned her to get inside.
