Police in Athi River, Machakos county, are investigating a spat of crimw in Mlolongo.

This is after three people were killed in separate incidents in less than 24 hours at Katani and Syokimau estates between Thursday and Friday morning.

Mlolongo assistant county commissioner Dennis Ongaga said a security guard was killed by thugs who later stole an assortment of items in Katani estate on Friday morning, while two suspected thugs were lynched by irate members of public in Syokimau on Thursday.

“It was reported by a member of the public that at around 1.00am at Rimhouse in Katani estate within Mlolongo Division, thugs of unknown number managed to break in at Barrels Liquor yard, a bar guarded by guards from Pearson Security, and killed a guard on duty,” Ongaga told the Star on Friday.

Ongaga said details of the murdered man couldn’t be immediately made public since his relatives were yet to be traced and informed about the incident by relevant authorities.

He said the thugs reportedly stole three speakers, mixer (Yamaha make), and a motorbike KMFC 375M Honda make.

“When the alarm was raised, the thugs dumped three speakers which have been recovered. The matter was reported to Mlolongo police station for further investigations,” Ongaga said.

The administrator said in the second incident,  a mob injustice incident report was made at Syokimau police post on Thursday under OB: NO 8/4/11/2021 at 09.55 hours.

The report seen by the Star read in part, “It was reported that two male adults had been subjected to mob injustice by members of the public along Airport road opposite Earth View Court in Syokimau within Mlolongo division. The SCPC, SCCIO and their teams visited the scene and established that two unknown male adults had been burnt beyond recognition by irate boda boda operators.

It is alleged that the two ware among four suspected motorcycle thieves who were using a motorcycle without registration number. And had attempted to steal another motorcycle which is yet to be established.”

Ongaga said the rider and one thug escaped, while the two others were cornered, beaten and burnt.

“The said stolen motorcycle registration KMFS 701Y make boxer, red in colour was later recovered abandoned within Syokimau area,” Ongaga said.

He said police had launched investigations into the incidents after documenting both the scenes.
