Kanu delegates have unanimously endorsed party chairman Gideon Moi as their presidential candidate in next year's General Election.

The more than 3,000 delegates also gave Gideon a go ahead to engage like-minded individuals ahead of 2022.

Party secretary general Nick Salat moved the proposal that received overwhelming endorsement from the delegates.

"Thus special delegates resolve as that Gideon Moi is hereby nominated as the Presidential candidate for the 2022 General," Salat said.

He spoke on Thursday during Kanu's National Delegates Conference  at the historic Bomas of Kenya.

"Gideon Moi is hereby mandated to engage other like minded leaders with a view of winning the next poll."

Nancy Adera seconded the endorsement that will now see Gideon face off against other hopefuls, including Deputy President William Ruto in the race to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Salat further urged delegates to market the party, declaring that the independence party is back.

"We have been supporting people and it is time they also support us. I ask all of you members of our party that we go to the grassroots and galvanize our support," Salat told the delegates.
