Two armed gangsters were shot dead by Police on Friday night, after they attacked a woman and robbed her off her mobile phone and other valuables.

The thugs who were armed with a pistol, had accosted the woman who had just been dropped off by a taxi along Muhoho road, in Langata.

"A scuffle ensued as the thugs attacked her, prompting the woman to scream out for help. This attracted the attention of Police Officers on patrol, who rushed towards the scene," DCI director George Kinoti said.

However, on noticing the fast approaching officers, the thugs took to their heels towards Nairobi West, as they fired at the officers.

After three kilometers from the scene of the robbery, the thugs were finally cornered.

Kinoti said one of the thugs opened fire missing the officer leading the chase by a whisker.

"This prompted a fierce response from the officers who fired back and fatally injured the thugs," he said.

A Blow P99A loaded pistol, with five rounds of 5.56 mm calibre, was recovered from the criminals.

The scene was documented by DCI crime scene experts and the bodies of the criminals moved to City mortuary pending identification.

Last week, Police officers gunned down a robbery suspect, moments after he terrorized residents at the Buru Buru Shopping Centre.

Kinoti said the suspect and his two accomplices had stolen valuables from members of the public, who were rushing home from the busy shopping centre.

But upon arrival, one of the armed robbers who was a pillion passenger on the getaway bike fired at the officers.

In the same week, two suspected thieves were shot dead after they raided a shop owned by policeman in Likoni, Mombasa county.

A third suspect escaped with gunshot wounds, a police report shows.

The report shows the three-man gang was armed with pangas and iron bars. They started to break into the shop.

The shop is owned by police officer attached to Mombasa county DCI office. He was in his house that is adjacent to the shop during the 2am incident.
