Seven more deaths as Kenya virus cases hit 37,871

Cumulative tests done so far stand at 536,601 with 24,581 recoveries and 689 deaths.

Kenya has reported 37,871 cases of Coronavirus after 164 more people tested positive.

In a statement to newsrooms on Saturday, the Health Ministry said the new cases were out of a sample size of 3,872 tests done in at least 24 hrs.

The statement signed by CS Mutahi Kagwe said cumulative tests done so far stand at 536,601.

In the new cases, 140 are Kenyans and 24 are foreigners with 115 being males while 49 females.

The youngest is six months old infant while the oldest is 81 years old.

According to the statement, Nairobi leads with 41 cases, followed by Busia with 22 cases, Kisumu 17 cases, Turkana 14 cases and Embu 12 cases.

Mombasa has 11 cases, Nakuru 10, Werst Pokot 6, Trans Nzoia 5, Narok 4, Machakos 4, Uasin Gishu 4, Kilifi 3, Bungoma 2, Kiambu, Marsabit each two cases, Kakamega, Kericho, Siaya and Taita Taveta erach one case.

Kagwe said in the same period, 77 people have been discharged after full recovery from the disease.

Out of the 77 discharges, 40 are from various hospitals while 37 from the home-based care program.

This brings the total number of recoveries to 24,581.

Unfortunately, 7 more people have succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 689 since the first case was reported in March.
