Three health workers from Nyeri county have tested positive for Covid-19, CAS Rashid Aman has said.

Speaking during his daily brief on Monday, Aman said that they are at risk of contracting the disease.

"They put their lives on the line to care for the affected. We do not take this for granted. Let us recognise this sacrifice and display our compliance with the measures," he said.

"Healthcare workers are directly dealing with Covid-19 but we have other workers in first line not necessarily medics getting infected. It is an occupational risk but we are providing PPEs, sanitisers and ensuring containment measures are in place."

The CAS reiterated the requirement for care givers to wear N95 maks as this was more protective that any other mask.

Aman said the government has ensured that PPEs are available to workers adding that more resources have been channeled to keep them protected.

"Health care system has been stretched which is why as a government we have put our efforts to get more resources," he said.

"Every effort is being made to boost the number of health workers. This entails training of the health workers," he said.

Aman said the three cases are part of the 95 new Covid-19 patients confirmed after testing 1,096 samples in the last 24 hours.

The total number rises to 2,862.

Aman added that 97 patients have been discharged from various hospitals and one death has been recorded.

He further said not everybody who is positive will qualify for home care based management.

"We must assess the home itself to ensure measures that limit transmission are in place," he said.
