The Association of Kenya Insurers has said  the suspension of Nairobi Women's Hospital by all insurance service providers will remain in force pending a thorough review of quality and cost of the institution's services.

This comes after a series of WhatsApp messages released on Twitter last week showed doctors encouraging staff to commit malpractices in order to meet the hospital's targets.

However, a statement by the Nairobi Women's Hospital board dated February 3 cast doubt on the authenticity of the messages.

By Wednesday, at least six insurance firms had announced they would no longer reimburse patients who seek services at the hospital, following allegations of malpractice.

On Wednesday, Jubilee, APA and GA insurance wrote to their clients notifying them that they will no longer be accepting claims from clients seeking services at the hospital.

This came after  CIC, AAR and Old Mutual announced on Tuesday  that they had dropped the institution from their list of service providers following claims of malpractices.

AKI, however, advised that the suspension will not affect insured customers who are already admitted in the hospital.

"Billing and settlement of expenses incurred by these customers will not be affected," AKI manager Hazel King'ori said.

The insurance firms advised their clients to seek medical services from other healthcare providers in their panel.

GA insurance House in a letter to its clients announced that it has suspended all services to the hospital both for inpatient and outpatient effective January 5.

"We note that it may take some time to address the challenge, but we encourage you to seek alternative credit services withing our other credit providers," read part of the letter.

CIC cited administrative concerns when suspending services at Nairobi Women's Hospital.

It said in a statement, "Due to some administrative concerns, we wish to notify you that the services at the Nairobi Women's Hospital will be suspended from February 5,2020."

The firm said it was working towards a resolution of the concerns raised.

Old Mutual, on the other hand, said cash payments to the facility would not be reimbursable.

It also cited administrative concerns.

AAR urged clients to seek services at other outlets.

"We are committed to continuing to offer you unparalleled medical services through our expansive panel..."
