Blogger Cyprian Andama Nyakundi has been charged at a Nairobi court with extortion.

Nyakundi was charged on Friday alongside Emmanuel Nyamweya Ongera for allegedly extorting Sh1 million from Yogesh Pattni, the CEO Victoria Commercial Bank Limited.

The offence was committed on January 20 at the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi

The two are said to have extorted the cash as a down payment for an earlier agreed Sh17.5 million. The bribe was a precondition to pull down libelous content from Nyakundi's blog.

Both Nyakundi and Ongera denied the charges preferred against them before Milimani senior resident magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot.

Nyakundi is represented by four lawyers including Cliff Ombeta and Danstan Omari.

The complainant, Victoria Bank through their lawyer has accused Nyakundi of continuously being in contempt of court.

On these grounds, they are asking the court to deny the blogger bail.

The court to rule on whether he will be released on bail or not at 12.30pm
