Rescuers locate Likoni vehicle wreckage, recovery underway

KFS says normal ferry services in Likoni will be paralysed to allow recovery process.

Search and rescue teams have located the position of the vehicle that plunged into the Indian Ocean with two occupants onboard on Sunday.

The recovery exercise is currently underway led by the team comprising of officials from the Kenya Navy, KPA, Kenya Fisheries Research Institute and Private Contracted Divers.

The Kenya Ferry Services has said normal ferry services in Likoni will be paralysed for up to an hour to allow the rescue team to recover the wreckage and remains of the victims.

"This is to notify ferry users that due to the ongoing exercise of retrieving the sunken vehicle we are likely to experience delays between 30 minutes to one hour as ferry movement is affected," Kenya Ferry Managing Director Bakari Gowa said.
