Murang'a gets Sh6.2 billion water projects

PS says a water project is being undertaken in each of the seven subcounties

The national government is implementing water projects worth Sh6.2 billion in Murang’a county.

Water Principal Secretary Joseph Wairagu said the ministry is in the process of establishing a Sh2.4 billion water project in lower Gatanga that is semi-arid.

Ithanga water project will provide domestic and irrigation water in a programme funded by the national government in partnership with Belgium.

 

The ministry is also in the process of procuring a contractor for the Kinyona intake improvement works at Sh90 million in Kigumo subcounty.

A Sh50 million Makomboki water project that will see a 15km water pipeline established to distribute water to Kanderendu, Gatia-ini and Makomboki areas is also set to start.

“The procurement process for this project has been concluded and the contractor should be on site anytime from now,” the PS said.

Kinyona Mariira water supply project will cover Kigumo, Muthithi, Kihumbu and  Mariira areas at a cost Sh125 million.

A Sh200 million project with its intake in Mathioya will take water to the dry Gaturi area in Kiharu subcounty.

“There is water project that is being undertaken in each of the seven subcounties,” the PS emphasized.

 

He however noted that his priority is the Kenol water supply and sewerage project.

 

The project that will cost Sh1.2 billion has already been designed and the ministry will advertise for a consultant to supervise the project.
