14 killed in grisly Matuu road accident

Fourteen people have died in an accident along Thika-Garissa Highway in Matuu, Machakos county.

Those who perished include 10 men, three women and a child.

They died on the spot after the bus they were travelling in rammed into a stalled lorry during the 5 am accident on Wednesday.

Confirming the incident, Yatta police commander Joseph Karanja said the bus belonging to Medina Company was headed to Nairobi from Mandera.

"The bus coming from Mandera heading to Nairobi rammed into a stalled lorry by the roadside. Sadly due to the impact, fifteen lives were lost including the conductor identified as Jamaludin," Karanja said.

The police boss said the injured are receiving treatment at the Matuu Level 4 Hospital.

The bodies were moved to Matuu Mediance mortuary.

Karanja warned drivers travelling at night to be cautious to avoid accidents.

"Drivers should be cautious and more so, those travelling at night to avoid causing avoidable accidents,” he said.
