Top city lawyer Assa Nyakundi was arrested yesterday allegedly for shooting dead his 29-year-old son.

The DCI is investigating the circumstances under which Nyakundi "accidentally" shot dead his 29-year-old son, at their Muthaiga home.

The lawyer told the police that he accidentally pulled the trigger and discharged one bullet that hit his son in the chest.

The two had arrived home after attending a service at ICC church on Mombasa Road.

A report at Muthaiga police station OB number 34/17/03/2019 indicated that Nyakundi had left his pistol loaded. He allegedly pulled the trigger accidentally as he retrieved, killing his son, Joseph Nyakundi,  who was in the back seat. He was reaching for the firearm to put it in the right pouch of his car.

The lawyer is a licensed gun holder.

"He claimed to have accidentally shot one round from the said firearm hitting his son in the chest. He rushed him to Aga Khan hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival," the report reads. DCI officers from Starehe visited the scene yesterday.

Nyakundi's firearm, which had 14 bullets, and licence were confiscated.
