County Assemblies Forum (CAF) chairman Johnson Osoi has said corrupt officials should be prosecuted regardless of their positions.

Osoi who spoke to the Star at Enchula Resort in Kajiado on Monday singled out Samburu County that has alleged tendering scam valued at Sh2 billion.

He said those stealing from public coffers must be made to account for their sins.

He asked Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to tighten its noose on corrupt officers.

“County assembly forum which I sit as chair is a noble position in the leadership of this country and should not be seen as a union that defends county leaders from being arrested for squandering public money,” said Osoi.

EACC has started investigations in Samburu and lined up dozens of officials who are required to explain sources of the huge sum of money sent to their accounts.

Osoi said he will meet EACC boss Twahib Mbarak next week to talk about what is ailing some counties in terms of untamed corruption.

He gave an example of Kajiado where he claimed some money set aside for developing particular roads had been used for what had not been planned.

“The era of roadside pronouncements and declaration and channelling resources to satisfy political linkages are long gone,” said Osoi.

The speaker said the medical sector in Kajiado has completely been run down and many health centres and hospitals have no drugs and yet money (Sh138 million) was set aside in the 2018/2019 financial year budget.
