Muranga residents are living in fear after dozens of houses sunk following heavy rains pounding the region.

Red Cross says over 300 households in Kangema, Mathioya, and Kigumo have been affected by the springs.

"Cases of houses sinking is a strange thing that has never happened before. It has caused a lot

of damage and trauma to the affected households," Gitonga Mugambi, Kenya Red Cross manager for Central region said.

"We have seen houses that have sunk five to ten feet. Others have been split in the middle with pools

of water inside the rooms. It is devastating."

Responders from the Kenya Red Cross are on the ground aiding the affected families to relocate

to safer grounds.

The team is distributing non-food items as well as providing door-to-door psychosocial support.

"Assessments are ongoing to establish the impact on families and support towards their recovery," Mugambi said on Friday.
