Players in the private security industry want a policy to weed out rogue operators and harmonise the sector.

They say there is rampant discrimination based on gender and tribe, which has led to many investors losing business opportunities. “The private security industry in Kenya has 2,500 registered firms, but only about 600 are active and employs more than 500,000 people,” Protective Security Industry Association chairman Cosmas Mutava said in a report. It was crafted following the annual African Private Security Governance Annual Conference held on 8-9 October at a Nairobi hotel.
